The Musicians

   Kelsey Miller - violin:  

       Kelsey
began studies on violin at age 10 in the Richmond area.  Attending the Governor’s School for Government and International Studies, he participated in many ensembles including various quartets, regional orchestras, The Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra, Richmond Youth Chamber Collegium, and VCU Chamber Orchestra. 
         A  graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University,  Kelsey earned  a Bachelor of Music in Performance for violin and viola, with a minor in General Business.  His honors include being awarded a Dean's Scholarship for academic performance, as well as the MPTF scholarship for music students.   He has studied Yoko Kato of the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, Catherine Cary of the Richmond Symphony and Dr. Robert Murray.  His viola studies were with Dr. Stephen Schmidt of the Richmond Symphony.  Additionally, James Wilson was his chamber music and master class instructor at VCU. 
        Kelsey has participated in master classes with world renowned artists Cathy Cho, Amadi Hummings, James Wilson, Dr. Robert Murray, as well as several artists from the inaugural Richmond Festival of Music in 2005, as well 2006 and 2007 festival.  Kelsey currently plays with the Richmond Philharmonic Orchestra and has been a featured soloist with the ensemble.  He has also participated in the VCU chamber Ensemble, The Intercollegiate Orchestra, and the VCU Symphony Orchestra.  

Kelsey’s future plans include graduate study in violin performance.

   Caitlin - violin: 

       Caitlin began playing the violin under the Suzuki method when
she was 5 years old.  Recently, Caitlin graduate magna cum laude with a degree in Music Education from VCU.  She continues to play with the VCU Symphony Orchestra as well as the Richmond Philharmonic.  Caitlin, originally from Reston, Virginia, has become an active member of the Richmond music scene not only in performance, but also teaching.  She is a certified Suzuki teacher who currently teaches violin privately and will soon be teaching in the Hanover County Public Schools.  Caitlin's teachers include:  Susanna Klein, Yoko Kato, Robert Murray, Edwin Johannot, James Wilson, Jean Montes, Neil Cary, and Annette Pelled.

Holly - viola/violin:

       Holly Rose Jones holds a Bachelor of Music degree from The Hartt School of Music in viola performance, where she studied with Steve Larson and Melinda Daetsch. She has recently completed a long term comprehensive teacher training course in Suzuki violin books 1-8 under the direction of Sanford Reuning of the Ithaca Talent Education School in Ithaca , New York . She has also taken short-term violin/viola teacher workshop courses with Carrie Reuning-Hummel, and Teri Einfeldt. Holly Rose is currently employed at the St. Catherine’s School as the music department assistant. Violist for the Windemere String Quartet, she also maintains a studio of private violin and viola students.





Marcella (Marcey) Leonard -
flute:


     
Marcey, a Richmond, Virginia native, has pursued her Bachelor of  Arts in Music at Virginia Commonwealth University and has been playing the flute for more than 24 years.  Mrs. Leonard has participated in the Hampden Sydney Music Festival and, more recently, The Richmond Festival of Music.  In addition to being a founding member of  'Trio Esemjae' (flute, cello and piano), she plays at numerous churches in Richmond and the surrounding areas, including her home church, Second Presbyterian.  Currently, Mrs. Leonard is Options Coordinator for Fiesta-val Music Festivals and Camp Administrator for Mid-Atlantic Band Camps at Spectrum of Richmond, Inc.

   Suzanne - 'cello & manager

      Suzanne started playing cello at age 10 after playing the violin for one year.   During her high school years in the Chicago area she was active orchestra member, covering many different roles such as:  small ensemble works, pit orchestra, mentoring of incoming and freshman cellists, orchestral librarian work, as well as string orchestra conducting her senior year.
  Her string experiences after graduation included pit orchestra work with a local community theatre group, the St. Xavier College/Community Chamber Orchestra as principal cellist under the direction of Martha Morris, as well as the Elmhurst College Orchestra under the direction of Dale Clevenger, principal horn player of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Suzanne is also a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth with a B.A. in Music and a minor in General Business.  Her private teachers have included James Wilson (formerly of the Shanghai String Quartet),  Neal Cary, Principal Cellist of the Richmond Symphony,
Dr. Elizabeth Morrow, Professor of Cello at the University of Texas - Austin, and Nikola Ruzevic, Principal Cellist of the Zagreb Philharmonic.  She has also studied viola with Dr. Stephen Schmidt of the Richmond Symphony.  Suzanne has been a member of the American String Teachers Association since 2002, and attends their national conference each year.  She is currently a member of the Richmond Philharmonic Orchestra as well as the founder/director of The Forest Hill Adult String Ensemble which is a group for beginning or returning adult string players.



  Jasmine Hayes - viola/violin: (emeritus)

      
Jasmine is a native of Newport News, Virginia.  She is a recent graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a major in Music Education.  Jasmine studied viola with Dr. Steven Schmidt of the Richmond Symphony.  She also studied violin under Yoko Kato (formerly of the Richmond Symphony), Susanna Klein of the Richmond Symphony, and Regine Barrau.  She has performed with with VCU Symphony Orchestra, The Intercollegiate Orchestra, The Richmond Philharmonic, The Petersburg Symphony, as well as various chamber groups in the area. 

Her future plans include pursuing a graduate-level degree in viola performance at the North Carolina School of the Arts.
